Roni Griffith

Roni Griffith -- Singer, songwriter, dancer, model, and photographer. Hailing from Bloomington, Roni Griffith moved to New York City at age nineteen and became an original member of Kid Creole and the Coconuts, an Hispanic-flavored disco group. Griffith was one of the three Coconuts who backed August Darnell. The group appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1981 and served as an opening act for the B-52s and Huey Lewis and the News. Griffith then became a solo artist, recording two hits with Vanguard. THe bigger was a cover of Phil Spector's "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up," which reached #2 on the Dance chart in 1982. After her brush with fame, she moved to the Christian music industry in 1983 and recorded two albums. Currently, she is highly sought-after photographer in Indiana. Lastly, she was the model in Clairol's Nice N Easy commercial in 1981 (see below).
