Patrick Hession

Patrick Hession (b. Lafayette, April 29, 1968 - ) – Trumpet player. Lafayette native Patrick Hession began playing trumpet at age twelve and began trumpet studies at Ball State University in 1986. In 1992, Hession began a four-year hitch touring with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra. Although he originally played third trumpet with the Lionel Hampton band, he played lead on some occasions. Also starting in 1992, Hessian studied trumpet at the University of North Las Vegas with various notable performers, including Bobby Shew. His next major appointment was playing lead trumpet and solo trumpet with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In 2000, he took over the lead book with the Big Bop Nouveau Band of Maynard Ferguson, Hession’s idol. and remained with the band until the leader’s death in 2006. Known for his wide range, Hession wrote a warm-up book called Hession’s Sessions, which helps develop the student’s chops for lead trumpet playing.
