Indiana State University Steel Drum Ensemble

The Indiana State University Steel Drum Ensemble -- Steel drums are originally from Trinidad, where steel drum band competitions play an integral role in the culture. ISU's Steel Drum Ensemble was the first of its kind in Indiana and has been running strong since the 1970s. Its long-time director Tim Peterman has performed in many countries and still performs in steel bands. The director since 1994, Jimmy Finnie has traveled multiple times to Trinidad to immerse himself into the steel band tradition. Not unlike the groups in Trinidad, ISU's ensemble covers a variety of styles, including calypso, classical, jazz, pop, and reggae.
