Johnny Socko

Johnny Socko – Rock/Ska Band. Formed in 1990 in Bloomington, Johnny Socko took its name from a Japanese TV show in 1960s known as Johnny Socko and the Flying Robot. Founded by drummer Dylan Wissing, Johnny Socko was a five-piece, high-energy ensemble made up of guitar, bass, drums, saxophone and trumpet. Known for giving over 2,000 shows across the country, the band found time to record six albums (five in the studio and one live). Of particular note, Johnny Socko’s “Full Trucker Effect” is the theme song for a show on Sirius Radio hosted by Bubba the Love Sponge (formerly a DJ in Terre Haute). Although acquiring a significant national following and receiving significant airplay, Johnny Socko played its last show on New Year’s Eve 2004. Bringing back some of the outrageousness of Johnny Socko, former member Joey Welch fronts a new band called the Born Again Floozies, which features electric guitar, trombone, tuba, and a tap dancer.
