Robert Slap

Robert Slap (b. Detroit, Michigan -- ) -- Composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist (especially guitar) and engineer. Detroit native Robert Slap was a member of the Tidal Waves, a garage band from Roseville Michigan. The Tidal Waves flourished from 1964 to 1967 and got some national attention for their cover of "Father John." In the early '70s, he moved to L.A. and did session work on guitar and learned how to record and produce music. In 1982, he started working with Valley of the Sun records in Malibu in the early days of new age music. From the early 1980s to 2015, he released around twenty albums mainly on the Valley of the Sun label. Much of Slap's recorded music is electronic, and he collaborated with David Naegele and David Storrs early in his career, recording as Upper Astral (see below). For about the last ten years, he has lived on a farm in Indiana about 60 miles from Chicago. His recent album Recollections (2015), Vol. 1 received a nomination for "Best Contemporary Instrumental" album by the Hollywood in Music Media Awards. According to Slap, he does not stick to one style, and he often incorporates elements of jazz in his music.
