Claude Sifferlen

Claude Sifferlen (b. Indianapolis, August 29, 1940 - d. Indianapolis, March 18, 2010) – Pianist. After serving in the U.S. Army, Claude Sifferlen became a permanent fixture in the Indianapolis jazz scene starting in the 1960s. For a couple decades, Sifferlin and saxophonist Frank Glover distinguished themselves among the leading jazz performers in the city, performing weekly gigs at the Chatterbox and the Jazz Kitchen. The duo also performed at Carnegie Hall in 1997. Sifferlin worked extensively with trumpet player Mark Buselli, with whom he recorded the CD Take the Mitsu on Origin Records in 2004. Earlier in his career during the 1970s, Sifferlin played for several years with the John Von Ohlen Quartet and led his own trio. In addition, he played with the Woody Herman Orchestra in 1967 and with the Stan Kenton Band while Kenton was ill in 1971. Sifferlin also appeared with the Duke Ellington Band, Buddy Tate, Cleanhead Vison, Lockjaw Davis, and Milt Jackson.
