Big Daddy Kinsey

Lester “Big Daddy” Kinsey (b. Pleasant Grove, Mississippi, March 18, 1927 – d. April 3, 2001) – Singer, guitarist, and harmonica player. A Mississippi native, “Big Daddy” Kinsey moved to Gary at age seventeen when his dad took over as pastor at the Chase Street Church of God in Christ. Although already a blues musician, Kinsey spent his first several years in Gary working in the steel mill industry and raising a family. Military service during WW II also postponed a career in music. Along with his three young boys, he formed Big Daddy Kinsey and his Fabulous Sons, which played mainly in the Chicago blues style. After breaking up in 1972, the band reunited in 1984 as Big Daddy Kinsey and the Kinsey Report and recorded three albums, including Bad Situation (see above).
