Jim Edison

Jim Edison (b. October 2, 1932 - d. New Palestine, September 22, 2012) – Trumpet player and bandleader. After earning a bachelor’s degree in music education at Butler University, Jim Edison worked as a professional trumpet player, landing gigs with Frank Sinatra, Della Reese, the Tommy Dorsey band, Johnny Mathis, and the Harry James band. In addition, he has led many local groups at various venues, including the Ringling Brothers Circus, the Ice Capades, Holiday on Ice, the Murat Theater, Starlight Musical Theater, and the Indiana State Fair. For many years, he headed the Jim Edison Orchestra. Formed around 1998, his current band called Swing Shift copies the big band sound of the 1940s and 1950s.
