Philip Myers

Philip Myers (b. Elkhart, 1949 - ) – Hornist. A native of Elkhart and later a student at Carnegie-Melon in Pittsburgh, hornist Philip Myers began playing professionally in 1971. From 1980 to 2017, he was the principal hornist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Before that, he played with the orchestras of Atlanta, Nova Scotia, Pittsburgh, Minnesota (in Minneapolis), and Halifax. He currently plays on an Engelbert Schmid Triple Horn, and he recorded his first solo CD with Cala Records in 1998. He also played on the CD Take 9, which features the American Horn Quartet and the horn section of the NYPO. Although retired from orchestral playing, he is still playing as a soloist. In 2014, Myers became an honorary member of the International Horn Society. He has taught horn at Mannes College, New York University, and University of Music Lausanne in Fribourg, Switzerland.
