Rick Derringer

Rick Derringer (b. Rick Zehringer in Fort Recovery, Ohio, August 5, 1947 - ) – Singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Born on the Ohio-side of the Indiana state line, Derringer grew up in Union City, Indiana, where, in 1962, he formed the pop band The McCoys. Early in his career, Derringer also played in various bands led by Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter. In 1973, Derringer started a solo career, and his biggest hit was “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” (1974). Furthermore, Derringer’s “Real American” was used as Hulk Hogan’s entrance music. In the 1980s, he discovered and produced “Weird Al” Yankovic and played lead guitar in his band for several years. He has also crossed over into other genres including smooth jazz and Christian rock. As early as 2011, Derringer has been part of Hippiefest, a touring show that he shares with members of Vanilla Fudge, Badfinger, and Mitch Ryder.
