History

The Jewel was created by an ancient giant known as Xul’Xat in order to document the details and operation of the greatest invention his father, Xul’Xir, ever created on behalf of the Emperor of Xen’Drik, Cul’Sir. This invention was a weapon of both immense size and power, referred to as Los Xenos or as The Throne of the 13 Moon-Kings. After the Throne was created in order to repel an extraplanar invasion that was costing the giants of Xen’Drik dearly, Cul’Sir order his chief arcane adviser, Xul’Xir, to activate the device and remove the threat once and for all. Knowing the inherent dangers of the device, Xul’Xir ordered his son to leave Xen’Drik and observe the war from the fledging continent across the sea that would be known as Khorvaire. Xul’Xat had every intention of returning once his father’s fears were put to rest, but with the activation of the device came the destruction of the Xen’Drik’s southern land mass.

Xul’Xat never returned to Xen’Drik. Over the years that followed, Xul’Xat put himself as a god-king in what is now Droaam and through his children, eventually the Jewel was entombed with his grandson, Xul’Xan, the rumored progenitor of all ogre magi. It was the legend of Xul'Xan being a decendant of the giants of Xen'Drik that prompted Professor Baxter Abdul to hire the party for an expedition into Droaam to confirm his findings. It was when Baxter returned with the jewel to Sharn and passed through the heart of the manifest zone while idly examining it that he discovered its real purpose.

Properties

When placed in the heart of an Intense manifest zone, the Jewel will glow, showing a portion of an encrypted text on any nearby surface. The text is written in Giant and is incomplete, requiring the jewel to be placed in the heart of an Intense manifest zone for each 13 planes of Eberron before it can be completely read. Once the 13 separate portions of the text has been transcribed, a Linguistics check can be made by someone that can read Giant. The check starts at DC 95 and gets a –5 modifier for each portion uncovered, to a minimum of DC 30. Success reveals the complete operation instructions for the Throne and makes references to how the Giants planned on using this artifact to defend against a planar invasion some 40,000 years ago. It does not make mention of where the Throne is, how to find it or its current condition..
