Storm Sentry

Description:

House Lyrandar has held the role of shipping over the ocean and the open sky since the establishment of the house. Those blessed with the Mark of the Storm have been known to wield its power to ensure that their precious ships get to their destinations on time and cargo intact. But, in a time where pirating and raids are an ever-present threat, the House will send their elite warriors; those that have not just used the Mark of the Storm, but perfect it over years of training... the Storm Sentries. Armed with both martial skills and the power of their dragonmark, Storm Sentries are able to strike at their foes from a distance, tossing would-be raiders overboard or striking them down with wind and lightning. While it is said that Storm Sentries are temperamental, this is actually just a recognition of the fact that they have the very power of the elements at their disposal.

Role: Storm sentires attract those of the House of the Storm that prefer open adventure on the high seas and the crashing winds. Given how much that this prestige class relies on its dragonmark, training in other areas of the arcane arts is somewhat redundant, hence most storm sentries start of as martial characters.

Class Features:

All of the following are class features of the storm sentry prestige class.

Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Storm sentries do not gain any new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Improved Dragonmark (Su): At 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th levels, the caster level of your dragonmark spell-like abilities increases by +1. This stacks with other sources that increase the caster level of your dragonmark spell-like abilities.

Wind's Embrace (Su): Starting at 1st level, the storm sentry can expend one use of any of his Least True dragonmark spell-like abilities, as a swift action, to cast Feather Fall at the same caster level.

Increased Dragonmark (Su): At 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th levels, the storm sentry gains one additional use of his Gust of Wind dragonmark spell-like ability per day.

Powerful Winds (Su): Starting at 2nd level, the storm sentry adds one half his class level, round down, to the DCs of any of his true dragonmark spell-like abilities that allow a saving throw. This stacks with other bonuses the saving throw DCs to the storm sentry's dragonmark spell-like abilities.

Storm-Lashed: At 3rd level, the storm sentry gains the Storm-Lashed feat as a bonus feat.

Bonus Feat: At 4th, 7th and 10th level, the storm sentry gains a bonus feat from the following list: Greater True Dragonmark (Mark of the Storm), Lesser True Dragonmark (Mark of the Storm), Mark of Deflection, Stormrider or Skill Focus (Acrobatics, Climb or Swim). He must still qualify for the feat normally.

Gale Force (Su): At 6th level, the storm sentry gains the ability to expend one use of any of his Least True dragonmark spell-like abilities to generate a concussive force of wind. This is treated exactly like Hydraulic Torrent except that it is intensely focused air, not water, thus swapping out the [water] descriptor for the [air] descriptor. If the storm sentry has access to Lesser True dragonmark spell-like abilities, he can choose to expend one of their uses instead to get a +4 untyped bonus to the bull rush attempt. If the storm sentry has access to Greater True dragonmark spell-like abilities, he can choose to expend one of their uses instead to get a +8 untyped bonus to the bull rush attempt. This counts as a standard action that does not provoke and the storm sentry cannot activate more than one dragonmark spell-like ability per activation.

Stormstrike (Su): At 8th level, the storm sentry gains the ability to expend one use of any of his Least True dragonmark spell-like abilities, as a swift action, to make one his natural or unarmed weapons, or one melee weapon that is mostly comprised of metal, to become Shocking, as per the special weapon quality. This quality lasts for 1 round per caster level, but stops prematurely if the storm sentry looses the weapon.

If the storm sentry has access to Lesser True dragonmark spell-like abilities, he can expend one use of any of his Lesser True dragonmark spell-like abilities, as a swift action, to make any thrown or projectile weapon that is primarily metal Shocking for 1 round per caster level. Thrown weapons loose their Shocking quality moments after the attack roll, meaning that it does apply if the attack hits, but does not if the weapon is later picked up. Should the storm sentry pick up the same thrown weapon, the Shocking quality resumes, although the duration is still limited to a total of 1 round per level. Using this option on ranged weapons automatically imparts the Shocking special quality onto its ammunition.

If the storm sentry has access to Greater True dragonmark spell-like abilities, he can expend one use of any of his Greater True dragonmark spell-like abilities, as a swift action, to make one of either his most metal weapons, his natural attacks or his unarmed attacks to have the Shocking Burst quality. This is still limited to 1 round per caster level. The limitations on throwing weapons still apply and the benefits of the Shocking Burst quality are still passed from a ranged weapon to its ammunition.
