Blade of Orien

Description:

House Orien is the dragonmarked house of Passage. They specialize in overland travel, shipping and maintaining the lightning rail system that connects the far corners of Khorvaire. They are not, by nature, a house of warriors, but they understand the need for those that know their way around a battlefield. To that end, House Orien has had a long standing tradition of training those with dragonmarks in their number to utilize their gifts to give themselves optimal placement in battle. Known as the Blades of Orien, or sometimes the Knights of Orien, these martial experts use their ability to dimensionally hop across the terrain to confuse, scatter and decimate their enemies. It is said that, to a Blade of Orien, there is no distance between between the tip of their sword and the enemy's heart.

Role: Blade of Oriens attract fighters, cavaliers and other martial characters that understand the benefit of proper tactical placement. Given that the requirements provide the character the ability for extradimensional movement around the battlefield, dragonmarked fighters that prefer speed are the most common.

Table: The Blade of Orien

Class Features:

All of the following are class features of the blade of Orien prestige class.

Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Blades of Orien do not gain any new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Improved Dragonmark (Su): At 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th levels, the caster level of your dragonmark spell-like abilities increases by +1. This stacks with other sources that increase the caster level of your dragonmark spell-like abilities.

Increased Dragonmark (Su): You can use your Dimension Leap dragonmark spell-like ability one additional time per day per class level.

Bonus Feat: Starting at 1st level, and every odd level thereafter, blades of Orien get a specific bonus feat, even if they do not qualify for it. At 1st level, he gets Dimensional Agility. At 3rd level, he gets Dimensional Assault. At 5th level, he gets Dimensional Dervish. At 7th level, he gets Dimensional Maneuvers and at 9th level, he gets Dimensional Savant. For the purposes of these feats, Dimension Leap can be used instead of Dimension Door.

Dimensional Pull (Su): At 2nd level, blades of Orien can use their Dimension Leap and Dimension Door dragonmark spell-like abilities to summon forth unattended objects. Only one object of 25 pounds or less may be targeted per use of the dragonmark spell-like ability and the object must be within range of either the Dimension Leap or the Dimension Door dragonmark spell-like ability. Lastly, the blade of Orien must either have direct line of sight to the object or otherwise know exactly where it is in relation to him at the time this class ability is used. If the object is attended or the object is not exactly where the blade of Orien believes to be, the use of the dragonmark spell-like ability fails. Thus, an object in his backpack, back at base camp or locked away across town would be valid targets, but an object on a boat or being carried out of line of sight would not. The object in question always appears in the hands of the blade of Orien, making him armed and threatening in the case of a weapon, or on the ground in his square, as desired.

This class feature does not apply to Dimension Leap or Dimension Door cast from other methods; only those provided by the dragonmark spell-like abilities. If the blade of Orien does not know exactly where he is (i.e. lost), he must regain his bearings before using this class ability for things not in his immediate vicinity.

Dimensional Push (Su): At 4th level, blades of Orien can use their Dimension Leap and Dimension Door dragonmark spell-like abilities to send others without going themselves. The number of people that can be moved in a single use is still limited by the Dimension Leap and Dimension Door spells and the blade of Orien determines their destination. All people that are going to be moved must be willing and aware and either be touching the blade of Orien or touching each other when the use is expended.

At 8th level, blades of Orien can use their Dimensional Push class feature in an offensive manner. To do so, they must succeed in a melee touch attack against their target as a standard action, followed by activating their dragonmark spell-like ability as a swift action. The target gets a Will save to resist the effect (DC 12 + your Chr modifier for Dimension Leap, DC 14 + your Chr modifier for Dimension Door). If successful, the target is teleported to wherever the blade of Orien desires, provided that the limits of the dragonmark spell-like ability are applied. Spell resistance does apply to this use of your dragonmark spell-like abilities.

Neither application of this class feature applies to Dimension Leap or Dimension Door cast from other methods; only those provided by the dragonmark spell-like abilities.

Swift Leap (Su): At 6th level, using your Dimension Leap dragonmark spell-like ability to move yourself is always swift action. This class feature does not apply to other uses of your Dimension Leap dragonmark spell-like ability, like activating another class ability. This class feature does not apply to Dimension Leap or Dimension Door cast from other methods; only those provided by the dragonmark spell-like abilities.

Hostile Juxaposition (Sp): At 10th level, blades of Orien can expend a use of their Dimension Door dragonmark spell-like ability to cast Hostile Juxtaposition instead. The DC for the associated Will save is DC 14 + your Chr modifier.
