With a successful casting, you distort the alignment of a chosen creature or object. In order to target an object, the object has already have an alignment (like in the case of intelligent magical items or holy or unholy weapons). The selected creature or object now registers as a different alignment of your choice at the time of casting for the purposes of spells, powers, spell-like effects, psi-like effects, supernatural abilities and extraordinary abilities. Thus, a villain can be made to appear lawful good to the examination of Detect Good, Detect Evil, the effects of Unholy Blight or the auras of outsiders. This distortion does not affect magical item qualities or effects, thus the villain would still suffer the additional damage from a Holy weapon.

As a special exception, the smite supernatural ability is not affected by this spell, but the actions of the person or object affected might not give any reason for him to be targeted by a smite ability. Thus, a villain would still fool a paladin's Detect Evil ability and the villain's own actions may not give the paladin any reason to suspect him, but if the paladin did actually target him with a Smite Evil ability, the effects of that smite would still work normally.

If this spell is examined by a spell or power that is capable of detecting alignment that is of a higher spell or power level than Misrepresent Alignment, the examiner can make a caster / manifester check to see that the alignment is distorted. The DC is 11 + the caster level of the Misrepresent Alignment spell and success does not tell what the real alignment is, only that Misrepresent Alignment is present.
