Primal Scholar

Description:

Xen'Drik is a wild, untamed land; home to ancient giant monuments, hidden archives of lore and many deadly creatures. People from all over often come to Xen'Drik in order to strike it rich, recovering lost artifacts and treasure. But many of those that try often do not live to see their payday. Full of jungle undergrowth, poisonous serpents, mutated creatures, degenerate giants and xenophobic drow, the Lost Continent is not a place for the weak or uncommitted. Of those that actually carve a niche for themselves are Primal Scholars. These men and women of the arcane arts come to Xen'Drik in order to find that which was lost and return to bounty of civilization. More than a few dragonmarked houses and adventuring guilds have Primal Scholars in their ranks and their skills are always in high demand for expeditions in great unknown of this land.

Role: Primal scholars are rough and tumble wizards, sorcerers and bards to pursue the secrets of the lost civilizations of Xen'Drik. Like many other adventuring spellcasters, they need to a even mix of quick wit, combat skill and survival savy in order to see the great treasures that lie in store within the jungles of Xen'Drik.

Table: The Primal Scholar

Class Features:

All of the following are class features of the primal scholar prestige class.

Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Primal scholars do not gain any new proficiencies with weapons or armor.

Spells per Day / Spells Known: At the indicated levels, a primal scholar gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous caster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If he had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a primal scholar, he must decide to which class she adds the new level for the purpose of determining spells per day. Once this decision is made, it cannot be changed.

Lore of Xen'Drik (Ex): Starting at 1st level, a primal scholar gets a pool of lore points equal to the total of his primal scholar class level and his Intelligence modifier. These points refresh each day after 8 hours of rest, during the same time that he regains his spells for the day. A primal scholar can spend one lore point to take 20 on any Knowledge check concerning a topic in or of Xen'Drik, and that check can be made untrained.

Secrets of Xen'Drik: Starting at 1st level, and at each level thereafter, a primal scholar learns a secret of Xen'drik from the table below. Once a secret has been chosen, it cannot be changed and no secret can be taken more than once, unless stated otherwise. Lastly, the primal scholar is limited as to which secrets he can select, based on the total of his primal scholar class level and his Intelligence modifier. Many of these secrets rely on the lore pool gained from the Lore of Xen'Drik class feature. No more than one secret can be used in a single round.
