Dinosaur, Leaellynasaura

This two-legged dinosaur stands about as tall as an ostrich and moves in much the same way. The creature's beak is rounded and blunt, making it easier to crack nuts and chew off roots. The creature's forearms are barely as long as a child's, making them almost useless except for maintaining balance. While not particularly hostile, the 'fastieth', as the halflings call them, cannot carry more than a couple hundred pounds of weight. This makes them poor choices for mounts for most anyone but the halflings that train them. Where they excel is their speed. You are not likely to find another kind of mount that is as fast and as easily handled.

Leaellynasaura are two-legged herbivores that would rather flee than fight. Like horses, they make excellent mounts, but can only carry Small sized riders or smaller. Likewise, they are not naturally trained for combat, although this can be remedied with enough time. Halflings prefer to keep these 'fastieths' suitable for the long distances that it takes to cross the plains of their homeland. Fastieth racing is also a common sport.

The carrying capacity for a typical Leaellynasaura is a light load of up to 66 lbs, a medium load of up to 133 pounds and a heavy load of up to 200 pounds. While they can drag up to 1,000 pounds, this kind of work is not suited for them and can quickly cause fatigue.
