Shroud of Death and Despair

The thing oozed up from the thick mud surrounding the old abandoned keep. When it grab Kerl, a flash of necrotic energy surged from his leg and scoured the life of the half-orc's bones. When it took a swing a Mealani, she was able to duck under it with ease, but the thing's rubbery flesh barely gave way to her daggers. Once it fully emerged from the mire, the three remaining adventurers could see the bones of the very military captain they were here to rescue, already decaying within the thing's acidic juices.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:

Spell Effect (Su): Each time the Shroud of Death and Despair successfully strikes a target with its slam attack, that target is affected by a Finger of Death spell and a Crushing Despair spell as a 13th level caster. The saving throw DC for each of these effects is DC 19. If the target has a spell resistance, only one check per attack is made either allowing all spells or no spells to apply to the target. These saving throw DCs are Charsima dependent.

Engulf (Ex): As per the universal monster rules, DC: 32.

Spell Engulf (Su): Creatures that successfully engulfed are subject to a Finger of Death and a Crushing Despair each round. If a target has spell resistance, the Shroud of Death and Despair's caster level check is made only once per round per target, either allowing all spells or no spells to apply as appropriate. As the engulfed creatures are considered pinned, this will appropriately alter their saving throws.
