Quori Mindhunter

Description:

Quori mindhunters come from a kind of uniquely driven warrior that despises the Quori and the Inspired in ways that go beyond a simple struggle. In order to join their ranks, a prospective psychic must submit to be taken via Dream Travel to a remote area of Dal Quor and left there by himself to face a single quori spirit in one-on-one combat. If successful, the initiate's first task is to trap the creature within his own subconscious to draw from its abilities to fight other quori. While this tactic may seem ludicrous to the outsider, the inherent duality between dreams and nightmares makes this tactic not just viable, but extremely effective. Sadly, since there is no way of knowing what kind of quori might be lurking in the dark corners of Dal Quor, only about a third of prospective talent survive.

Role: Quori mindhunters are typically psychic warriors or telepath psions, depending on their initial introduction to the class. Given their specialized form of fighting, they are excellent allies to have when fighting creatures that rely on fear, but they are not a bad resource in more 'classical' encounters either.

Alignment: Quori mindhunters cannot be evil and the vast majority of them are good of some fashion. However, prolonged experience in both fighting the quori within their own minds and the schemes of the Inspired in the real world often takes their toll and older Quori Mindhunters sometimes become neutral.

Requirements:

To qualify to become a quori mindhunter, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Alignment: Any non-evil.

Feats: Iron Will.

Special: Ability to manifest 3rd level powers, Ability to manifest the Thought Shield power. Have successfully defeated a quori spirit with HD greater than your own in a dream state combat (meaning single combat on an infinite flat plain with no assistance).

Class Skills:

The quori mindhunter's class skills (and the key abilities for each skill) are Autohypnosis (Wis), Bluff (Chr), Craft (Int), Intimidate (Chr), Knowledge (planes) (Int), Knowledge (psionics) (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis) and Spellcraft (Int).

Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features:

All of the following are class features of the quori mindhunter prestige class.

Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Quori mindhunters do not gain any new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Powers per Day / Powers Known: At the indicated levels, a quori mindhunter gains additional power points per day and access to new powers as if he had also gained a level in a manifesting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional power points per day, powers known and an increased effective level of manifesting. If he had more than one manifesting class before becoming a quori mindhunter, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for the purpose of determining power points per day and powers known. Once this decision is made, it cannot be changed.

Immunity to Possession (Ex): At 1st level, the quori mindhunter becomes immune to all forms of possession.

Psychic Tap (Ex): Starting at 1st level, the quori mindhunter taps into the psychic power of the quori spirit trapped within. This grants him 1 additional power point per class level to his maximum power points per day.

Sleepless Mind (Ex): At 1st level, the quori mindhunter does not naturally sleep and is immune to any effect that causes sleep. He must still meditate for 4 hours every night to rest and heal as per a character receiving 8 hours of sleep.

Powers Known: At 2nd level, and every even level there after, the quori mindhunter adds a power to his list of powers known in the following order: (2nd) Expulsion, (4th) Wrench, (6th) Pierce the Veils , (8th) Dream Travel, (10th) Ethereal Form.

Bonus Feat: At 3rd level, the quori mindhunter gains the Improved Iron Will feat as a bonus feat. At 7th level, the quori mindhunter gains the Strength of Two feat even if he does not qualify for it.

Forceful (Ex): At 3rd level, any time the quori mindhunter manifests a power with either the fear descriptor or the Expulsion power, the saving throw DC increases by +1. At 7th level, this bonus increases to a +2.

Mental Resistance (Ex): At 5th level, the quori mindhunter gains a +4 bonus to saving throws against fear effects. Also, any time the quori mindhunter manifests a power that provides power resistance against mind-affecting effects (like Thought Shield), the power resistance is increased by +1.

Improved Mental Resistance (Ex): At 9th level, the quori mindhunter is immune to fear. Also, the bonus to power resistance detailed in the Mental Resistance class feature increases to +2.
