Radiant Idol

"Brothers and sisters, listen to my words and know the truth of the Thirteenth Way. Know that through loyalty and sacrifice, we will all be remade in the land of silver resplendence...", the towering cult leader shouted from on top of his dias at the far end of the chamber. The man was huge, at least as tall as an ogre, but with flawless skin and golden eyes. The way that his flock looked to him was clear that they would die for him. This make Sir Andel's job that much harder. For while he detested sneaking into the cult's compound, the changeling thief that alerted him to this threat was right. This could go very badly, very quickly.

It was shame that once a creature of purity could fall so far. The question was could Sir Andel force him to fall again without killing of the innocents that were fooled by his lies.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:

Aura of Divinity (Su): Radiant idols put off an aura of their fallen divinity constantly, with a range of 30 feet. Any ally within that radius gains the benefit of Good Hope, while opponents must make a Will save, DC 21, or suffer the effects of Crushing Despair. The caster level for both of these effects is equal to the radiant idol's Hit Dice. The saving throw DC is Charisma based. The radiant idol does not get the benefits, or penalties is own Aura of Divinity or that of other radiant idols.

Domain (Sp): Each radiant idol has a specific cleric domain that they are tied to. In addition to the spell-like abilities listed above, the radiant idol gets the 1st level domain spell as an at-will spell-like ability, the 2nd and 3rd domain spells as spell-like abilities usable three times per day each and 4th, 5th and 6th domain spells as spell-like abilities usable once per day each. Radiant idols cannot select subdomains for this ability. The example listed is the Fire domain.

Domain Power (Su): Each radiant idol gains access to the domain powers of their chosen domain, as per the Domain ability, as a cleric of a level equal to their Hit Dice. The example listed as the Fire domain would be:

Fire Bolt (Sp): 6 times per day, 30 ft ranged touch attack for 1d6+7 points of fire damage

Fire Resistance (Ex): Fire resistance 20

Flightless (Su): Radiant idols are immune to any effect that involves flight, levitation or the ability to move through the air without touching a surface. If they ever get a fly speed through some method, regardless of type, that fly speed is immediately removed. Any attempt to toss, throw or otherwise move a radiant idol into the air, voluntarily or not, automatically fails. If a radiant idol is subject to falling damage due to the ground suddenly not being there, he always takes maximum damage. This does prevent a radiant idol from jumping, but not for any other uses of the Acrobatics skill.

This ability also affects anyone or anything within 30 feet of the radiant idol that is flying through the use of magic or psionics to automatically fall, as if affected by an Anti-Magic Field specific only to the effects that are providing flight. Only creatures with natural or supernatural abilities to fly can still do so within 30 feet of a radiant idol.

Oath (Su): Radiant idols have the ability to initiate worshipers into their cult. The process takes 24 hours of uninterrupted service between the radiant idol and his worshipers. All worshipers must make a Will save, DC 23, or be affected by the Enthrall spell. Many of them will voluntarily fail this save as they are fooled by the radiant idol's words, but so long as at least one worshiper is initiated, those that fail the saving through are considered cultists. Once the initiation is complete, the radiant idol gets the following abilities, concerning his cult.

Kill Cultist (Su): A radiant idol can kill any cultist that displeases him that is on the same plane as he is. The affected cultist must make a Fortitude save, DC 23, or die. Those that make the save still take 3d6+6 points of damage and this is considered a death effect. A radiant idol can only use this ability once per day per cultist.

Locate Cultist (Su): A radiant idol can precisely locate any cultist that is on the same plane (or know if he is not on the same plane) as per Locate Creature. There is no save to this and there is no limit to the number of times this ability can be used.

Scry on Cultist (Sp): A radiant idol can scry on any cultist that is on the same plane, as per Greater Scrying. There is no save to this, but a radiant idol can only scry on a specific cultist once per day.

Torture Cultist (Su): A radiant idol can torture a cultist that is on the same plane. The cultist must make a Fortitude save or suffer a -4 penalty to all attack rolls, skill checks and ability checks for 1 round per Hit Die of the radiant idol. There is no limit to the number of times this ability can be used.

Each application listed can be performed by the radiant idol as a standard action that does not provoke. The saving throw DCs of this ability are all Charimsa based. Once someone has been claimed as a cultist, the only way to release them is by either killing the radiant idol or having the radiant idol perform another initiation in reverse.

Radiant idols were once angels of the Sovereign Host that looked to have the direct worship of mortal followers directed to them. Stripped of both their wings and their titles, they were banished to Eberron were they are never allowed to return the heavenly abodes of the gods. Vengeful and spiteful for their situation, they regularly seduce cults of worshipers in order to feed their narcissism. Most radiant idols are also arrogant to the extreme and will rarely work together out of the conflict of interest with their mortal followers.
