Deathless - Type

Deathless creatures are the divine personification of reverence and respect for life, bound eternally to the material world. Originally, and most notably, present with the elves of Aerenal, deathless creatures are usually highly respected and honored by the living that associate with them or live nearby. Seen as physical guardians of divine mandate, even the lowliest deathless often commands the respect of living creatures that would easily outmatch it in battle. While the process to become a deathless creature is only common in the elven Undying Court, there is nothing that actually prevents another race from becoming a deathless creature except the degree of effort required.

A Deathless creature has the following features.

    • d8 Hit Die.

    • Base attack bonus equal to 3/4 total Hit Dice (medium progression).

    • Good Will saves.

    • Skill points equal to 4 + Int modifier (minimum 1) per Hit Die. Deathless creatures are never unintelligent, so they always gain skill points and feats. The following are class skills for the deathless: Diplomacy, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (history), Knowledge (religion), Sense Motive and Spellcraft.

Traits: A Deathless creature possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature's entry).

    • No Constitution score. Deathless use their Charisma score in place of their Constitution score when calculating hit points, Fortitude saves and any special ability that relies on Constitution.

    • Darkvision 60 feet.

    • Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns and phantasms)

    • Immunity to attribute drain, bleed, death effects, disease, exhaustion, fatigue, nonlethal damage, paralysis, poison, sleep effects and stunning.

    • Immunity to attribute damage to its physical ability scores (Constitution, Dexterity and Strength).

    • Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).

    • Not at rish of death from massive damage, but is immediately destroyed when reduced to 0 hit points.

    • Unlike undead, deathless are subject to energy drain, are healed by positive energy and are damaged by negative energy.

    • Not affected by Raise Dead and Reincarnate spells or abilities. Resurrection and True Resurrection can affect deathless creatures. These spells turn deathless creatures back into the living creatures that were before becoming deathless.

    • Proficient with its natural weapons, all simple weapons and any weapons mentioned in its entry. Proficient in whatever type of armor (light, medium or heavy) it is described as wearing, as well as all lighter types. Deathless proficient with any armor are also proficient with all shields, except tower shields. Deathless not indicated as wearing any armor are not proficient with any armor.

    • Deathless gain the same benefits from Consecrate and Hallow that undead do from Desecrate and Unhallow and are hindered by Desecrate and Unhallow just as undead are hindered from Consecrate and Hallow. Hide From Undead and Undeath to Death work equally well on deathless. Detect Undead and similar effects to detect the undead will also detect the deathless, but will also instantly reveal the difference between the two creature types.

    • Deathless do not count as undead for the purposes of special advantages specifically against the undead or for spells that specifically the undead. Thus, deathless creatures take no additional damage from Wall of Fire or Magic Stone, nor are affected by disrupting weapons, holy water, Halt Undead, Command Undead or Control Undead.

    • Deathless with a good alignment have a good aura as per a cleric of equal hit dice and show under Detect Good as such. Use of the Command Undead feat on a deathless creature can force it to flee as per the use of the Turn Undead feat. Likewise, use of the Turn Undead feat on a deathless can be used to control it as per the use of the Command Undead feat. Deathless creatures take damage from unholy water in the same way that good-aligned outsiders do. Deathless creatures only take 1d6 per two caster levels from the Searing Light spell.

    • Any material based damage reduction that a deathless creature might naturally possess is overcome by targath metal and only by targeth metal. Any other form damage reduction that a deathless creature has (weapon type, alignment, epic, etc) or that it may take advantage of through a magical item or spell remains unchanged.

    • Deathless do not breathe, eat or sleep.
