This spell must be cast on the remains of a living creature whose soul has not been reanimated as a form of the undead or deathless or is otherwise imprisoned, like a Magic Jar or weapon with the Keeper's Fang quality. The spirit in question has the right to refuse this spell and if he does so, it automatically fails. If successful, this spell binds the soul to the remains of the body indefinitely, making it possible to cast Raise Dead or similar spells without any concern for the time limit. The spell also creates a link between the soul and the clay figurine used in the casting (which is not destroyed, but not able to be used again). If the clay figurine is targeted by a Speak with Dead spell, the spirit that is linked is able to immediately answer, regardless of the distance, or condition, of the physical body. This specifically includes damage to the mouth, ears and eyes of the original remains.

However, if the clay figurine is ever taken to a different plane than the physical remains, including a pocket dimension or extra-dimensional space, or if either the clay figurine or physical remains are destroyed, the spell is broken and both the physical remains and the clay figurine collapse to dust.
