Spell-Catching

Description: The Spell-Catching special quality can only be placed on light, heavy and tower shields. It cannot be applied to armor or any other item that provides a non-magical shield bonus. Once per day, as an immediate action, the wielder of a Spell-Catching shield can intercept a 3rd level spell, spell-like ability, power or psi-like ability that specifically targets only him. Area effects cannot be intercepted in this way, nor can effects specifically target multiple individuals. The effect is captured within the shield and can be released by the wielder, using the same caster or manifester level, saving throw DC and alterations (psionic augmentation, metamagic or metapsionic feats, etc) as the original effect. The action to the release the effect is the same as the original activation of the effect. The shield can only hold one effect at a time, regardless of the level, and if the effect is not released within one hour, it dissipates on its own.

Lesser Spell-Catching shields can absorb a single effect up to 3rd level. Greater Spell-Catching shields can absorb a single effect up to 6th level
