までに
Meaning: by, by the time
までに indicates a time limit for an action.
Examples
明日までに本を返してください。
あすまでに ほんをかえしてください。
Please return the book by tomorrow.
１２時までに駅に来てください。
じゅうにじまでに えきにきてください。
Please come to the station by 12 o'clock.
いつまでにレポートを出せばいいですか。
いつまでに レポートを だせばいいですか。
By when should I submit the report?
今日は母の誕生日なので、５時までに家に帰りたいです。
きょうは ははのたんじょうびなので、ごじまでに いえに かえりたいです。
Today is my mother's birthday, so I want to go home by 5 o'clock.
Notes
までに cannot be used with a verb that indicates a continuous action. Instead, まで is used.
子どもたちは５時まで公園で遊びます。
こどもたちは ごじまで こうえんであそびます。
The children play in the park until 5 o'clock.
父は月末まで大阪にいます。
ちちは げつまつまで おおさかにいます。
My father will stay in Osaka until the end of the month.
