①A 間 B
during, while
This phrase represents that a state or an action is continuing for a certain period of time.
さとみは夏休みの間、短期留学をしました。
さとみはなつやすみのあいだ、たんきりゅうがくをしました。
Satomi studied abroad for a short time during the summer vacation.
長い間、両親に会っていません。
ながいあいだ、りょうしんにあっていません。
I haven't met my parents for a long time.
子どもがテレビを見ている間、私は本を読んでいた。
こどもがテレビをみているあいだ、わたしはほんをよんでいた。
While my kid was watching TV, I was reading a book.
昼休みの間、ずっと寝ていました。
ひるやすみのあいだ、ずっとねていました。
I slept all the time during the lunch break.
②A 間に B
during, while
This phrase represents that an action occurs when a state is continuing.
昼休みの間に銀行へ行きます。
ひるやすみのあいだに、ぎんこうへいきます。
I go to the bank during the lunch break.
暇な間に、本棚の整理をしましょう。
ひまなあいだに、ほんだなのせいりをしましょう。
Organize our office bookshelf in our spare time.
母が買い物に行っている間に、私は部屋を掃除します。
ははが かいものにいっているあいだに、わたしは へやを そうじします。
While my mother goes shopping, I clean the room.
佐野さんが席を外している間に、電話がかかってきましたよ。

③A と B の間に
between
学校と駅の間に、コンビニが2軒あります。
がっこうと えきのあいだに、コンビニが にけんあります。
There are two convenience stores between the school and the station.
数学と英語の試験の間に、休憩が30分あります。
すうがくと えいごの しけんのあいだに、きゅうけいが さんじゅっぷん あります。
There is a 30 minute break between the math and English exams.
ひかりちゃんは、お父さんとお母さんの間に座っている。
