②through specific duration of time
この地域は１年を通じて温暖な気候です。
このちいきは いちねんをつうじて おんだんなきこうです。
The region has a mild climate throughout the year.
ピーマンは夏野菜だが、１年を通してスーパーで売られている。
ピーマンはなつやさいだが、いちねんをとおして スーパーで売られている。
Green peppers are summer vegetables, but they are sold at supermarket throughout the year.
父は一生をとおして、一度も旅行をしなかった。
ちちはいっしょうをとおして、いちどもりょこうをしなかった。
My father had never traveled in his life.
Note
通して can be replaced by 通じて in all cases except when the medium is a concrete, physical medium as in the following sentence.
×カーテンを通じて室内の様子が見えた。
〇カーテンを通して室内の様子が見えた。
カーテンをとおして しつないのようすがみえた。
What was inside the room was visible through the curtain.
