Respectful and humble expressions 6 丁寧語
ございます is a polite form of あります.
でございます is a polite form of です.
It is used when talking politely to the listener.
Examples
かばん売り場は３階にございます。
かばんうりばは さんがいに ございます。
The bag section is on the 3rd floor.
営業部は、ただ今会議中でございます。
えいぎょうぶは ただいま かいぎちゅうでございます。
The sales department is currently in a meeting.
あちらに見えるのは、東京スカイツリーでございます。
あちらにみえるのは、とうきょうスカイツリーでございます。
You can see the Tokyo Sky Tree over there.
この料理は何ですか。
このりょうりはなんですか。
What’s the name of this dish?
天ぷらでございます。
てんぷらで ございます。
It is Tempura.
