Winston Groovy - Selection
When Laurel Aitken got started making hits out of Regent Sounds in Denmark Street. He thankfully knew that what he created could be shared.
And so he started to assemble a small team of artists around him.
Winston Groovy was part of that team. There is more than enough material for a Laurel Aitken -Winston Groovy produced set from the reggae-era, but it seems that nothing happened for Winston album wise until 1973.
During the reggae era, Winston also worked with Bunny Lee, but it was a self production that brought Winston his biggest hit.
‘Please Don’t Make Me Cry’ released on Eddy Grant’s Torpedo label. A nice simple love tune that Winston puts everything into.
It wasn’t his first self production either. Tunes like ‘Darling You Send Me’ and ‘I Like The Way You Hug and Kiss Me’ always carried the swing, good songs, and well produced UK reggae music.
It would be great to see the great music that he made with Laurel Aitken together with his own self productions from this time. Both men tried so hard to create a good reggae scene in this country - and made some fantastic music in the process.
