Justin Hinds and The Dominoes - Carry Go Bring Come - Trojan 2CD
Both Trojan and Heartbeat lay claim to the Treasure Isle catalogue but
with Trojan releasing more music probably than they did back in the
70's it was always going to be them who was going to release an album
like this first. Hopefully Justin's family will benefit from this set.
That's what important on these kind of albums. Everyone knows just how
great a singer Justin was and the same can be said about his
songwriting. The 46 tracks here contain some massive hits and some of
the best songs ever to come out of Jamaica. Justin was up there with
Bob Marley, Joe Higgs - when it came to making a point. Sometimes it
hits you straight away - others just stick in your mind a title
waiting for an explanation. Tony Rounce does a very good job at
providing some explanation and insights. While the sound quality is
also very good. A great tribute to a great reggae artist
.
Justin Hinds
Foundation Jamaican vocalist and songwriter, Justin Hinds, has passed
away on Wednesday Night, March 16th 2005. He had only recently been
diagnosed with lung cancer.. His wife, Peaches, and three sons,
Maxwell, Carlton and Randy, survive him. Justin Hinds, born on the 7th
of May 1942 in Steertown, Jamaica.
His career began in the Ska era with the hit recording, "Carry Go
Bring Come", for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label in 1963 and following
the success of that record he went on to make dozens of other ska and
rocksteady titles for Duke Reid. Justin recorded two albums for Chris
Blackwell's Island/Mango label in the mid-seventies produced by the
late Jack Ruby and two albums for Nighthawk Records in the eighties.
For the first time, Justin Hinds and the Dominoes toured through the
United States from coast to coast (1997). Another surprising project
was "Wingless Angels" (1998), featuring Justin on vocals in a unique
recording made by Keith Richards (Rolling Stones), Justin's good
friend for many years.
More recently he was involved in the Jamaica All Stars project, a
musical collective that included Noel Simms, Johnny Moore and Sparrow
Martin. Two albums by the Jamaica All Stars were released featuring
his vocals including "Right Tracks" last year. Justin Hinds was
working on a new solo recording with his son Maxwell, a drummer, at
the time of his death. Our condolences go out to his family and
friends. Source : Robert Schoenfeld
