Outernational – Selection
Charlie Morgan, Mike Morrison and Clinton Rufus came together to form Outernational in the early nineties. Based in the US in Seattle was the first overseas label to really have an impact in Jamaica and worldwide.
Sadly they never got around to releasing a Various Artists set although they did release a couple of One Rhythms albums 'Party Time' and 'Knocked Out'.
But they recorded an whole heap of artists!!! People like Gregory Isaacs, The Mighty Diamonds, Johnny Osbourne, Capleton.
Who provided the label with a good portion of hits. This though was not the only objective of Outernational Records. They wanted to find new talent and bring them to the world. And its here that Outernational really did well.
Talent like Superman & Spiderman, Mackie Ranks, Sugar Black, Culture T, Jim Irie, Captain Barkey and Wicker Man.
Superman & Spiderman, and Mackie Ranks even got Outernational Produced albums – which came on Hightone in the US.
So you might wonder what made Outernational special? The sound is the answer. At the time reggae had lost its musical identity – by returning the music to its it core values – bass and drum it brought reggae music back onto the right track. Not many people can say they have done that.
