Revolutionaries – Channel One
A year or so on from The Skin Flesh and Bones album recording for Lloyd Campbell at Randy's Studios. We find more or less the same line up at Channel One – now called the Revolutionaries.
The big difference between The Skin Flesh and Bones set and this one – is that this one, this sound changed the music.
The Rockers sound, the sound of Channel One that came in late 74 early 1975. Was that sound that brought major label contracts for The Mighty Diamonds and a great deal of success for many producers who came to the the studio looking for an hit.
The 'Flyers' and the 'Bump' sound both came direct from the America.
'Rockers' had no such American connection – not unless you count Sly seeing the Stax Film – and I can't recall any Stax records featuring drums played in this way.
And it wasn't just the drums. Rad Bryan and Tony Chin's wah guitar sound totally replaced the traditional reggae rhythm guitar.
The sound quickly became a template – and upon that so many tunes were made new. And other updated in truly fine style.
