Bunny Brown – Ready For The World – Coxsone - 2005
Noel ‘Bunny’ Brown was a member of the Chosen Few, a group with a number of great singers including Richie Mac, and AJ Franklyn, and Dave Scott – AKA Scotty.
The Group never recorded for Coxsone, but still had massive success with producers Derrick Harriott and Tony Robinson.
In common with a lot of vocal groups, most of the members try there luck at a solo career. And so it was with The Chosen Few.
Scotty probably had the most success, but not as a singer, but as a deejay. His ‘Draw Your Brakes’ album for Derrick Harriott was very popular. And his ‘Skank In Bed’ for producer Harry J nearly went into the pop charts.
Noel, took his time before he finally went solo. He made singles for Derrick Harriott and Tony Robinson. But it wasn’t until 2005 that he finally released his debut album for Coxsone.
By then Coxsone, had decided it was time to for him to have another go at the business. His had done very well with his last set of singers, JD Smoothie, Alpheus, Dona V and Glen Washington.
Now he was working with The Congoes, The Blackstones, The Jays – and singers like Bunny Brown. Perhaps he was thinking more in terms of The Chosen Few – but decided to stick with Bunny. Bunny his helped out on the album by Luciano and Pam Hall.
The album is packed with great songs. Most of the time, they are Bunny singing new songs over old rhythm in fine style. But every now and again. You hear a new rhythm, which is good. Although the problem with Studio One, is define new. They could have been recorded in the late seventies/early eighties. So by then they 25 years old!!!
