King Stitt – Dancehall 63 – Studio One – 1994
This is perhaps one of the strangest album on Studio One. Coxsone had always been prone to doing some baffling things – but why he wanted to release an album of King Stitt – shouting over the top of some old ska tracks – puzzled the most ardent Studio One fans. The vaults of Studio One probably contains dozens of great tunes from what was once Studio One sound system number one deejay – why release this? This is really a mix of a live album in the studio. Recorded sometime around 1994. A real curiosity.
King Stitt - Reggae Fire Beat – Jamaican Gold – 1996
King Stiff left Coxsone for Clancy Eccles at the start of the deejay boom back in the late sixties. At the time Clancy's beat was hotter than fire – real reggae at its very very best. Add to this the early deejay style of King Stitt – and its a truly classic set a truly essential album. It's just a real surprise that it took so long for someone to put it out. But with fantastic sleevenotes from Doctor Buster – it was well worth the wait!!! Every single track is just soaked in the vibes of the time. And as an added bonus I think there are even one or two unreleased tracks!!!
