Tiger – Love Affair – Rohit - 1990
More or less a part two – this time King Jammy fires up the string synth – but that's about it – and its sounds great!! On the title track – Tiger more or less sings the song straight which if you didn't know is what he started out as – a singer. Although its his deejay tracks that shine likes the eyes of a tiger! 'Briggy Dip' is a typical Tiger workout – lyrically it could mean a couple of things – take your pick. While 'Crab Inna Barrel' is a very old Jamaican concept lyrical concept which works every time. Its the sort of thing that Tiger excels out – taking a concept and building into a song – a great set.
Tiger – Touch Is A Move – Mango 1990
Probably the next best Tiger set after 'Me Name Tiger' co-produced with Robert Livingstone. Its got a line up that includes The Firehouse Crew on rhythms – but its Tiger in great form that makes this such a great set. Heavily influenced here by Screecha Nice – who's sound bite style was so greatly loved. Tiger just takes it another direction again. “Water in a kettle...” Its manic, and Tiger's style was wild like a tiger anyway – and the rhythms cut at studios like Music Works – are just perfect pure dancehall – with all the goodness left in and added foreign ingredients!
Tiger – Deadly – Penthouse. - 1991
When Donovan Germain's Penthouse label/studio got going and had massive success with the likes of Cutty Ranks and Tony Rebel – it was hoped that Tiger would soon be paying a visit – and sure enough he turned up. 'Deadly' contains virtually every big rhythm that Penthouse cut back then – and Tiger works them so well. Good rhythms are all that a good deejay needs to do his stuff. He rips into them like the true predator he is! The Penthouse label provided the last great selection of great deejays albums – they are sadly missed.
