Sister Carol - Black Cinderella - Jah Life - 1984
The rise of woman DJ's as been remarkable in the last few years. So far Sister Nancy as made the greatest progress. More recently it's been the New York based Sister Carol who has started to go forward. Carol just like Sister Nancy as been very influenced by Brigadier Jerry and his cultural style. This comes out on this album very strongly. 'Black Cinderella' is her second album and is produced by Jah Life and Percy Chin. Like all the recent Jah Life music it was recorded at HC&F in New York, with the Hi-Life players.
Sister Carol - Jah Disciple - Mango - 1989.
It was a long long wait for Sister Carol's third album, and her second for New York based producers Jah Life and Percy Chin. Still it was well worth it. Sister Carol's cultural/reality dj style broke down a lot of barriers for woman DJ's. The renewed popularity of slackness, however meant that not that many woman DJ's followed her. This album then represents another rare example of the style. A good mix of digital and 'real' rhythms provide a solid foundation for Carol's wide range of subjects and themes.
