Nambo Robinson – Reggae In My Bone
When you think of the the excellent tromonists that Jamaica as produced over the decades its truly something else.
Don Drummond, Rico, Vin Gordon – add to that list Nambo Robinson. He's been around for a while – and a debut album from him probably should have come years ago – but nothing ever happens before its time in reggae music!
This is a superb set!!! Modern rhythms are laid out like a canvas and Nambo does everyone of them justice!!
The rhythm base for this album is that pulsating sound that Sly came up with back in the eighties – its an high energy sound – that doesn't phase Nambo at all.
Being a part of the Taxi Gang probably helps – but its fast even when its not that fast. The talent comes in with the ability to play just behind the rhythm.
The melodies overlap and enhance the rhythm work creating a oneness – that is a wonder to behold.
Hopefully this album will encourage others to record and release instrumental albums of this quality. They are needed in reggae music – and it would be nice to see Nambo Robinson on the cover!!!
