Now Generation - Selection
There are so many great bands from this era, Zap Pow, Soul Syndicate and the In Crowd.
Geoffrey and Mikey Chung on guitars, Val Douglas on bass, Wire Lindo on keyboards and Mikey Boo Richards on drums.
The difference between them and Now Gen is that Now Gen gained a LP release at the time.
The very rare ‘From The Hit Factory’ released in Jamaica on Federal, which Trojan released in a different form as ‘For The Good Times’. As an album that represents the Now Gen Band, the Trojan set does not cut it.
For the time being, what the listener has to do is to check out the following producers. Harry J, where they had a big hit with ‘Breakfast In Bed’ from Lorna Bennett and all its many versions. For Joe Gibbs check out ‘Hypocrite’ from around 1972. A great tune and a great rhythm, which Joe Gibbs never touched again for any deejay cut or instrumental.
Then go to Lee Perry and check out ‘Beat Down Babylon’ from Junior Byles. Old Scratch versioned this rhythm over and over again. A massive rhythm.
Lloydie Matador was a big fan of Now Gen as well and they are on Dennis Brown’s ‘Things In Life’. Now Gen worked with so many producers and artists. They are for many the sound of the early seventies.
