Sammy Dread - Road Block - Hitbound - 1982
Channel One's production share out in the early eighties was a tremendous success. Niney's works were all outstanding, so was the work of Scientist, likewise with Solgie, who produced this excellent debut album from Sammy Dread. Tracks from the album were played extensively on dub plates on all of the big sounds in the early eighties and it's no wonder. Solgie's production style is perfect for sounds. Bass and drum well forward in the mix, with just enough keyboard and guitar work to carry the melody.
Sammy Dread -Wrap Up A Draw -Seven Leaves -1985
This is Sammy Dread's first album for a long time, at least three years. In that time it can be heard that Sammy has developed his own voice, any similarity with Michael Prophet has now gone. The vocal range is still there and so is the character. All of his songs are very poignant. 'No Joker Girl' is about love and kindness. In 'Old Time Days' he remembers with fondness his schooldays. This wonderful set concludes with the title track, and the message that sensi never mad no one.-Produced by Sipho and
