Lynn Taitt & The Jets – Glad Sounds
Lynn it seems was on his way out of Jamaica when this album was being mixed – and with Lynn not being around to promote it – they pushed Gladdy Anderson's piano playing more forward in the mix. Hence the title.
Well even in a mixed down form this is a magnificent work – capturing the true spirit of rock steady – and the clean sound of Federal Studios.
The horn sound alone is so radically different from anything coming from Studio One or Treasure Isle. They are bright and sharp. Would love to know who the players were on this album.
Lynn and Gladdy take turns on this great selection of tunes from the big hits of the days 'Intensified '68' to 'Ride Me Donkey' 'Once Upon A Time'.
One track that brings together that bright horn sound, along with the amazing guitar work of Lynn and remarkable piano playing of Gladdy – is 'Starlight'. Ken Boothe had a hit with for Sonia Pottinger – and rightly so – but this one here is something else again.
Its got almost a 3D quality that also transports you back to 1966 and the Rock Steady era of Jamaican music.
A magnificent work!
