"Delroy Wilson -Cool Operator -Music Club
-1996
Delroy worked with all the great producers- Coxsone, Leslie Kong, Sonia Pottinger.
The man who had his biggest hits with was Bunny Lee. And one song in particular 'Better Must Come' its a statement that means a lot to the Jamaican people and to reggae music -its artists and its fans.'Better Must Come' is here on this collection. Its the original tune produced by Bunny Lee in 1971. Some of the music on this set -are recuts from a wide variety of producers. For instance 'I'm Still Waiting' is not the Lloyd Charmers production -I think this is the Bunny Lee recut from a year or so later. So if its important to you to have the originals -you should be checking another CD. For those who are just interested in hearing Delroy Wilson work his way through the seventies and eighties this is a must. Of special interest is a rock steady cut of 'Once Upon A Time' that was produced by Dennis Alcapone. This CD is worth it for that track alone!!! A 19 track set -its got a lot of great music. From one of reggae music's greatest stars."
"Delroy Wilson - Dub Plate Style - Pressure Sounds.
Bunny Lee as always been up for trying new things. He new that from time to time the reggae needed a new rhythm. And to the man’s credit - he had a hit with every change. Even the digital
style - which Bunny was not a fan of by all accounts. This set dates from 1978 reggae was just going to be changed again with by the dancehall style. Bunny didn’t have anything to do with that, but you can tell from this album he was thinking about it.
Getting Delroy to sing over mixed down dubplate style rhythm - is about as Dancehall as you can get.It didn’t really get any notice back then - because singing over old rhythms had not really taken off yet. Coxsone was doing it - but with new singers over old rhythms. This is more like a revoiced remixed style of that. With King Jammys at the controls in fine style of course!!! Itsa twenty track CD - the same amount of tracks as the original LP. A great work."
"Delroy Wilson - The Best Of (Original Twelve) - Studio One.
Too many Studio One albums are marred by seriously mad track selection, but this set is one of the exceptions. Although Coxsone still likes to have a little bit of fun, when he repeats 'Someone Gonna Cry' twice on side two, which effectively makes this release 'Original Eleven'. Some of the tracks also feature overdubbed eighties instrumentation, but this more or less works, and it seems it's done with the best of intentions. Included here are 'Riding For A Fall', 'Run Run' and 'Conquer Me'."
"Delroy Wilson - Worth Your Weight In Gold - CSA - 1984
For over 20 years Delroy Wilson has been making great reggae music. In that time he's had hits in every era of the music. His time at Studio One was probably his most creative and productive, yet converting that into something of benefit to himself was something else, so Delroy moved on. Since then it's been these Gussie Clarke produced tunes here, that have stood out, Namely 'Come In Heaven', 'Worth Your Weight In Gold' and 'We're All In This Together', Perhaps not in that order, but certainly all in the same time,'78/79."
