"Apachie Indian - Make Way For The Indian - Island - 1995
Any chance of this being anymore than an bandwagon jumping exercise rapidily disappeared with the opening track, the title track, which is a simplistic rap tune. A cover of ‘Armagideon Time’ with Yami Bolo providing vocals , should have improved things, but didn’t. Good deejaying is all about inspiration and timing, this lacks both. What was/is needed was something fresh, and ‘Boba’ is exactly that. A heavy duty Bangra rhythm featuring a nice flute, it’s the first time the Indian sounds like he’s enjoying himself. It doesn’t even matter that the lyrics are totally baffling."
Apachie Indian - No Reservations - Island - 1993
The arrival of the bangra beat in reggae music in the early 90’s was bound to produce some novelty effect. Apachie Indian’s ‘Chok There’ was it. To hear someone come out with being “Number one on the Bombay Chart.” was amusing to most reggae fans. Although this set needed a lot more thought and imagination. It would have helped if Apachie Indian had a distinct style, but for the most part he takes bits and pieces of other dj’s styles, without bringing anything new to any of them.
When he does come up with something new it tends to sound like traditional Bangra.
