Techniques - Queen Majesty - Trojan
A long proud history of hits and great records took The Techniques into the reggae era.
Duke Reid got the first hits in that era with them. ‘I’m In The Mood (for Love) and ‘There Comes A Time’
both featuring Pat Kelly on lead vocals.
Such success usually leads to a move for independence and so it came to pass the Winston Riley - Mr
Techniques formed his own label.
26 out of the 28 tracks featured on Disc 2 of this 2 CD set are produced by Winston. And what an
amazing collection of music it is.
Great great songs, with fantastic rhythms, blending all this is best in the smoothest of the
Beverleys sound with the more strident reggae sound of Treasure Isle.
Pat Kelly’s lead vocal can be heard on most of these tracks, but every now and that Junior Delgado vocal
style pops up. ‘Baby Don’t Say Goodbye’ is one example here.
The biggest hit from this selection outside of the Duke Reid tracks must be ‘Travelling Man’ but the whole
CD is a remarkable tribute to fantastic vocal group.
