Lady Ann – Vanity – GG's - 1983
A spirted deejay set from the young Lady Ann. Recorded and mixed at Aquarius with a little know band of musicans that none the less provides some solid recuts of some of the biggest rhythms of the day. Lady Ann herself picks up on the vibes of Sister Nancy – but with a deejay style all her own. Alvin's production style is also distinctive enough to make it interesting. Any producer who produces a young woman deejay and releases it – deserved support. It was just a shame there wasn't more of them.
Lady Ann – Informer – Joe Gibbs - 1983
In the tradition of reggae music no sooner than you get one set from Lady Ann then you get two!!! Which begs the question which one came first – or which was released first? This one from Joe Gibbs as got it all – some of his best rhythms built by We The People Band – and sung over by the likes of Dennis Brown. Lady Ann sounds a lot more confident on these rhythms than on the GG's set. And the title track was a hit for her. A lot is said about the dancehall style and sexism but a lot more woman got there start in that era than any other.
