Winston 'Bammy' Rose – Sounds Of Freedom – Progressive Sound
When the digital UK stepper scene emerged in the late eighties – it was clear that the best tunes, always had a human element to them.
The Mystic Red Corporation proved it time and time again on their productions.
This album from 'Bammy' Rose is yet another excellent example of this practice.
An album rammed with 'Steppers' rhythm, with the exception of 'Freedom Ska' which a nice modern Ska track.
The 'Steppers' rhythms are truly amazing ' Progressive Sound' getting a really good sound. And Bammy's sax playing just takes to another level.
Most of the tracks feature Bammy playing Alto sax which always sounds good on reggae rhythm. In a way recalling the work of Jerry Johnson at Wackies.
It would be nice to hear some 'Baritone' sax on reggae tracks – but it looks like the 'Baritone' sax players have all packed up and gone home!!!
This is a truly great album and shows that even all those years ago the UK scene was experimenting – it wasn't just all boof boof drum!!!
