Daddy Freddy – Body Lasher – Sunset - 1986
If Papa San's was the counter attack against the UK's fast style movement – Daddy Freddy made sure that Jamaica had assimalated it into the deejay mainstream of Jamaica. Blending together the styles of Ranking Joe and Papa San along the way. Fast is not the word for Freddy!! This album though is full of surprises. This Sunset label is one of Harry J digital labels. And this album is produced by Harry. Its got some great digital rhythms on it – and also some 'human' rhythms that seem to come from other producers as is the Jamaican way. A truly excellent set, a bonefide classic.
Daddy Freddy – Cater Fe She – Original Sounds - 1989
About three years down the line from his debut – Daddy pops up again – and once again its not the standard fare. Fatis Burrell is at the controls on this – in what I think his is debut album release. At the time Fatis's label was Vena. Even then he had a sound – you can hear Sly's electric drum kit pounding away on the rhythms. Daddy Freddy is as quick as ever. And his lyrics are as varied as on his debut set. The only change is that perhaps you can hear what's he saying a bit better – but there can be many reasons for that. A great start for Fatis and and another solid set from the Daddy.
