Phillip Fraser
Phillip Fraser - Blood Of The Saint - Silver Camel
Freedom Sounds and Cornerstone productions dominated the early
dancehall style, in the same way that people like Ras Allah and Earl
Zero were at the deepest roots of the Roots scene, man like Phillip
Fraser became the sound of dancehall. It was a very dramatic way of
singing - powerful but at the same time sounding very vulnerable. I'm
not sure how much stuff Phillip did with sound systems, but his style
was very popular and artists like Sammy Dread, and General Plough who
both added new vibes to it. This set as got all the big hits from
Phillip plus some dubs and is truly essential. Good to see a labela
like Silver Camel re-releasing some of there old catalogue - must be a
good Jah Thomas in the works.
(PhillipFraser) - V/A Death In The Arena - Solidarity Int.
Unlike other rhythm albums where there are a wide variety of lyrical
themes that can be heard, Phillip Fraser set concentrates on culture,
and includes contributions from Tipper Lee & Rappa Robert, Ashanti
Waugh, Devon Russell, Triston Palma, Anthony 'I Cock' Stephens.
Frankie Jones and Phillip himself, plus a version making 8 cuts
altogether. The album was recorded in California's L.A's I&I Sound a
nice surprise, and in London. Its very good album, which hopefully
will inspire others
