Sydney Rogers - Miracle Worker - Ethnic Fight
Sydney was working for Ford Motors in Dagenham - when he linked up with Larry Lawrence.
Larry had been one of the first producers to set up his own independent label Ethnic. He worked with Lee Perry. And had his productions released by Trojan and Rhino - EMI’s reggae label.
This album was a big jump for Larry. Recorded in Jamaica and I would guess voiced and mixed in the UK at Chalk Farm.
Its features an whole team of some of the biggest names in the business on the rhythms.
Mikey Boo, Carlton Barrett and Winston Grennan on drums, on Bass, you have Jackie Jackson, Lloyd Parks and Family Man. On Keyboards there was Winston Wright and Sonny Binns and Hawk.
Larry was not trying to make this album on the cheap!
Sydney is a great singer with a cool voice along the lines of Pat Kelly and Cornell Campbell.
He’s also a very good songwriter. Having a big hit with the title track of this album. While ‘Don’t Throw Stones’ was another popular tune.
