Junior Ross.
Most vocal groups are not really groups at all. They are more like teams, where any number of people can be called upon at anytime to make a contribution.
Producer Tapper Zukie produced two such teams - Knowledge from Trenchtown, and Junior Ross and the Spear from Greenwich Farm.
He successfully got a deal for Knowledge with A&M in the US for the release of there debut album, back in the seventies.
Junior Ross & The Spear - debut came next - it came out in Jamaica - but Tapper still did it justice with an excellent selection of music and a great sleeve.
Of course it didn’t receive the attention or the promotion of the Knowledge release. Such was reggae music then, and such is reggae music now.
Yet what really matters, is the quality of the music made by I&I.
Which includes Junior Ross, Prince Alla, Roy Palmer, Frankie Jones and Leroy King. Some serious talent.
They create a magnificent set of songs, which includes - the big hit ‘Judgement Time’ - and also songs like ‘Babylon Fall’ and ‘Jah Love’
On the UK release of this set on Jamaican Recordngs you also get some dubs and some DJ cuts from Tapper Zukie. Mainly recorded at Channel One, with the mixing done at King Tubby’s.
