Phyllis Dillon lost her courageous battle with cancer , prayers go out
to her family. Phyllis Dillon - 'Queen of Rock-Steady' A legend of the
rock-steady era of the mid-'60s, In 1967 she released "Perfidia" and
"Don't Stay Away" with Tommy McCook And The Supersonics, which was
produced by Duke Reid at Treasure Isle studios in Bond Street. She
emigrated to New York, USA but periodically returned to Jamaica where
she recorded at the Bond Street studio. When rocksteady evolved into
reggae, Dillon was able to adapt to the new beat with dexterity. Her
biggest hit also was released on Treasure Isle "One Life To Live, One
Love To Give" reached the Jamaican Top 10. The 'One Life To Live'
album being released by Trojan Records in the UK, which featured her
hits along with "Long Time No Nice Time", "The Love That A Woman
Should Give A Man", "Love The One You're With", "I Can't Forget About
You Baby" and "Close To You". By the mid-70s Dillon devoted her time
to raising a family, although she made a moderately successful
comeback in the 90s.
