Dona V - Cry For Tomorrow - Studio One
When it comes to talent this man is well and truly blessed. If you gave Dona V the very worse version of 'Sleng Teng' (And to be honest, I think it was the Studio One cut strangely enough) he would turn it into a great song - with a great vocal. He's got one of those voices that have elements of other singers - but it takes time to work it out. Which is good. Very good. His songwriting is inspired as well. The man shows real insight into the problems of today - be it poverty, crime, injustice, history. This is a reality albums that man like Admiral Tebbit, Scion Success and quiet a few others would be proud of. The big difference is that it was done for Studio One. At a time when Coxsone had decided it
Was time for some fresh talent to come forward - and they did. Alpheus, JD Smoothie, and of course Donna V. All very talented youth. And all they needed was a little bit of promotion. Sadly that is not what Studio One is all about. It's not a cheap or easy thing to do - but for reggae music - it's now a must.
