Startrails - Richard Bell is to the mid nineties, what Youth Promotion’s policy was to the late seventies, a welcome return to the values of promoting the youths. Younger artists like Fleshy Ranks must have a better chance of success if they are given a chance to work with the talent on Startrail’s books. The traditional method of trodding from studio to studio can only be a dispiriting process. Lyrically he’s into everyhting, except out and out slackness. Stylistically he touches everyone from U.Roy to Buju. Richard Bells production keeps the rhythms down to bass and drum most of the time, which allows us to enjoy those wonderful rhythms that he builds.
